Income tax filing: Extended deadline expires, same difficulties encountered by users

Little impact has been felt over the extended period for income tax filing in Cameroon, which was scheduled to end on December 9, 2024.

Despite numerous extensions of the deadline, the final one seems to have faced the same issues, mainly due to the inaccessibility of the online platform.

Many individuals have yet to fulfill the tax obligation. Facilitators report ongoing difficulties with the site, despite users’ intentions to declare within the deadlines. They reveal that the platform functioned properly only for the first two days following the last extension before it stopped working.

“After the first two days, we have not been able to access the site to date” one facilitator stated, expressing the wish for another extension until 2025. The platform has significantly slowed down the registration process.

“There is a phenomenon of password resetting, as a taxpayer cannot log in twice with the same password. This requires users to provide a unique identification number, which must be communicated to IT staff in the centers for them to reset the password,” another facilitator explained.

Given the challenges, calls have been made for a reconsideration of the application of sanctions for late registration or failure to register by the General Directorate of Taxes.

The original tax filing deadline was June 30, 2024. It was extended twice: first to September 30, then to December 1. Since December 1 fell on a Sunday, the deadline was moved to December 2. To provide additional time, the ministry added this final period until December 9.
