Incest: Cameroonian artist admits to fathering Child with daughter

By Synthia Lateu

Cameroonian artist Saint Desir Atango has sparked nationwide outrage after revealing on Equinoxe Television that he has been having sex with his daughters. He made the startling revelation on Sunday’s program, Dimanche Avec Vous, on the Douala-based TV channel.

On his Facebook page, he reaffirmed that he has been engaged in incestuous relationships with his two daughters. In the controversial post, Atango confessed to fathering a child with his eldest daughter, a 31-year-old sanitation engineer. He stated that he was providing a report of his questioning in connection with accusations of incest involving both daughters.
“The sexual relationship between my daughters and me was consensual until their mother intervened and managed to take one of them away in 2022,” Atango wrote. “Now, the daughter who remained with me recently gave birth to our son. When she refused to let me inform her mother about the birth, my ex-wife falsely accused me of holding our daughter captive.”

Atango claimed he is not a Christian but an animist. He insisted he had committed no crime and presented himself as someone working for the “liberation of Africa.” He also accused his critics of acting in bad faith, attributing their disapproval to unresolved chieftaincy disputes.

However, under Cameroonian law, incest is a criminal offense, regardless of consent.

Renowned human rights lawyer Barrister Alice Nkom has called for the Public Prosecutor to take immediate action. “This is not merely a moral or family scandal—it is a serious criminal offense under the Cameroonian Penal Code,” she stated on her Facebook page. She expressed her full support to the mother of the two daughters, describing them as victims of “horror and brutality at the hands of an incestuous father, without scruples or limits.”

Barrister Nkom also cited relevant legal provisions, pointing out that the Penal Code provides for a punishment of one to three years in prison, along with a fine ranging from 20,000 to 500,000 CFA francs, for acts of incest.
