IED Attack In UB: SCAF Chairman Condemns, FAF Claims, UB VC Assures

The Chairman of the Southern Cameroons Activists Front, SCAF, Mark Bareta has condemned Wednesday’s IED attack in the university of Buea. The former Consortium Interim leader said it is inappropriate to attack civilians, “I must state that using IEDs on civilians is completely UNACCEPTABLE. As actors in the liberation war, we must sound it loud that those using IEDs on civilians or targeting the civilian population are not doing so in the name of Ambazonia. They do not represent our Forces and we must condemn this act and fish out the evils. These are evil agents” he said on Twitter.

Fako Action Force Claims Responsibility

While the SCAF chairman warned that attacking civilians was a forfeiture for their liberation war, the leader of the Fako Action Force, an Ambazonian group operating in Fako Division in the South West region, said his forces from the Buea Ghost fighters’ Unit, are responsible for the attack.

Fonbat Dieudonne said on his Facebook account that the attack was just a warning to the Canadian High Commissioner to Cameroon, who was taking part in a peace conference at UB.

“What’s This Peace Without Justice Lecture In UB? Canadian Ambassador Take The Message And Transmit To Your Government. Nonsense.”

Shortly after the explosion, Fombat Forbah Dieudonne said, “Our Ghost Fighters in Buea have detonated a bomb at UB against the ongoing peace conference organized by Canadian Ambassador.”

He went further to say the attack was just a message not meant to target civilians, “The attack today wasn’t aimed at students but to sabotage the peace conference. We can’t have over 50k deaths and people are preaching peace without justice,” Fombat said in a response to questions from CNA.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Univerity of Buea, Professor Horace Manga has assured the university community that the 11 students injured in the IED attack are doing well. he told reporters that classes went on smoothly after that incident but he could say with certainty who carried out the attack.

A leadership retreat grouping some actors in the ongoing armed conflict in the Anglophone regions. The Toronto meeting organized by the Coalition for Dialogue and Negotiation was highly criticized by the leaders who refused to take part in the retreat. This group of leaders said when they came under the Ambazonia Coalition Team ACT and called other actors to join them to prepare for negotiation, their offer was rejected. They also alleged that the CDN retreat was sponsored by the Cameroon government.

Death threats have been made to those in Cameroon who took part in the meeting – it remains unclear despite widespread condemnation; if the initiators will withdraw their threats and tolerate freedom of expression.
