Some 50 Internally Displaced Persons (women and girls) in the Babadjou subdivision, West region, expressed gratitude after receiving livelihood support from the United Youths Organization, an NGO.
The support ranging from farming tools and inputs, through foodstuffs, to materials to help them open small-scale businesses, were handed over to them in a ceremony that was held at the premises of the Babadjou council in line with the celebration of the International Day of the girl child observed annually on October 11.
The ceremony was held under the theme “Digital Generation, Our Generation”
The ceremony was in line with the project titled “Building Protection Capacities of Women and Girls IDPs hosted in the West Region” funded by the People of Japan through the United Nations Women and implemented by the United Youths Organization with the aim of ensuring that vulnerable women and girls IDPs and the Babadjou host population are supported and live in a safe environment.
The gesture according to the Divisional Delegate of Women Empowerment and the Family, came at a perfect moment and responded to the needs of this vulnerable group of persons.
The beneficiaries on their part, expressed satisfaction receiving the gifts and promised to make good use of them.
“I’m really grateful for this project. I received a sewing machine because I am a tailor and it will help me restart my small business,” a happy beneficiary said.
” I am an IDP, I received pairs of shoes as capital to start my petit trade. It will really help improve the living standard of my small family here,” said another lady.
Talikong Loveline, Founder of the United Youths Organization, called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the items they received.
” We thought it wise to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child in this way by coming to the help of these our sisters who are living here in vulnerable conditions. We are happy because this support will help most of them have a source of income so as to support their respective families.”
The second phase of the distribution process is expected to take place in the Month of November 2023.
