IDP woman and her five children die mysteriously in Loum
A 27-year-old Internally Displaced woman called Agifa Lorentine and her four children, from the North West region of Cameroon, have died under mysterious circumstances. The children were between the ages of seven (7) months and seven (7) years in Loum, Moungo Division of the Littoral region.
Curious neighbors found Lorentine and her four children, Modest, Prince, Christ, and Godwin dead in their room at about 4:00 PM on Sunday, September 24, 2023.
“Since morning we did not see them around. Another neighbor out of curiosity said we should go and check on them. We knocked at the door but no one responded. Opening the window, we saw them sleeping on the bed. We called in vain and decided to sprinkle water on them but none of them moved. The sole option was to force open the door. Behold, they were lifeless.” A neighbor recounted.
Everyone pulled to the compound by shouts was perplexed as to what must have killed them. Many suspect suffocation and intoxication from a poisonous substance.
“On Saturday at 5:00 PM when I was leaving the compound for classes, the woman was busy cooking with the children. Two people, a man and a woman visited them. It’s not clear if they have a hand in their death”. a student who lives near them told reporters.
This tragic incident happened in the absence of the father of the children, Francois Okoro, a hunter. The news got to him while he was hunting. He wept inconsolably, saying ” I don’t have a child anymore… I don’t have a wife again… What am I living again for? Who have I offended to be paid back this way? “
“Such a thing has never occurred in Loum. It is painful and, at the same time unbelievable. This man needs to be guided because he might be pushed to commit suicide,” a sympathizer said.
Gendarmes have begun an investigation to get to the root of the incident. Meanwhile, the five corpses have been deposited at the Loum municipal morgue.
Florentine and her family moved to this home two weeks ago.
