HYSACAM workers might go on strike soon
Employees of the Cameroon Hygiene and Sanitation Company, HYSACAM are threatening to embark on a 5th strike action within a two-year time frame.
Among their grievances is the non-payment of salaries for the past two months, lack of health insurance and even adequate work equipment.
HYSACAM workers have stopped work four times already within 24 months resulting in the abundance of waste in the streets of several cities in Cameroon. One of them is Bamenda where the dirt soldiers do not only have to deal with waste management but also threats from ambazonia fighters who have countless times kidnapped the workers or burnt their trucks. These actions have led to the abandonment of work and consequently, Bamenda is littered. Health issues which could come from this cessation of work abound. Â
Their last strike action lasted two weeks and was quietly solved by government through the injection of more funds into the company but less than three months after, the root cause of the problem has still not been properly tackled
