Edea: Inhabitants say slow execution of projects a major problem

By Nde Laura

In most parts of Cameroon, most projects are only executed at the level of regional headquarters. In some enslaved Divisions, the execution of projects is either too slow or abandoned by contractors, and the reasons are varied.

The people of Edea in the Sanaga Maritime division of the Littoral region are complaining that the slow execution of projects is hindering development in their locality.

They say the rehabilitation of roads is still pending as major urban stretches are degrading which poses a problem for road users.

According to the Edea city mayor, Albert Emmanuel Nlend, bad roads are just one out of the many challenges faced by the inhabitants.

“ We have so many difficulties in Edea, first the rehabilitation of major stretches is a project that has been launched more than 1 year ago, secondly we need good construction equipment to be able to work…, when we develop the area we can be independent,”

These challenges and more were highlighted during the Council budgetary session chaired by the Senior Divisional Officer of the Sanaga Maritime Division.

According to the SDO, Cyrille Yvant Abondo, importance should be given to income-generating projects.

“ I think the value should be given more to income-generating projects so we will stop calling for help from left and right. The council of Edea is supposed to develop strategies to raise funds for the development of its communities,”.

One of the income-generating projects is the coming of a new market announced by the mayor during the budgetary session.

This market will be specialized in the selling of meat to help the council raise funds for the execution of some projects.

The population now looks forward to welcoming this new initiative to the locality
