HIV, TB, Malaria services in Cameroon remain free of charge, Public Health Minister reaffirms

By Ngombet Claudia

Cameroon’s Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie, addressed recent false information circulating regarding the payment of HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria treatment in the country, in the wake of a temporary suspension of American International funding. These misleading claims suggested that patients would now have to pay for essential medicines and services, causing concern among citizens

The ministry has firmly denounced these rumours and assured the public that all HIV, TB, and malaria drugs as well as related services remain entirely free of charge at public health facilities and affiliated Community-Based organisations across the country.

The Government, through the Ministry of Public Health, has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to providing continued access to prevention, care, treatment and support, for all citizens, across the national territory, regardless of the suspension.

The Ministry further noted that the recent U.S. Government’s exemptions, to assist in the continuity of HIV and TB services during this period of evaluation, further bolsters Cameron’s efforts.

In line with the strategic initiatives of president Paul Biya, the Ministry is also advancing the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda to strengthen the sustainability of key health programs in Cameroon, as part of a broader effort to ensure that essential services remain available to all citizens without financial barriers.

The Minister of Public Health therefore calls on the public to remain calm, and to rely solely on official communications from the Ministry, for accurate information.

He urges health facility staff and Community-Based organisations to continue their work in alignment with national guidelines, ensuring that all citizens receive uninterrupted care.

On this note, citizens are encouraged to report any unauthorized charges related to HIV/AIDS, TB, or malaria services to the Regional Delegations of Public Health or the Regional Technical Groups for prompt action.

The Minister reiterates the Government’s firm commitment to protecting public health and ensuring that essential health care services continue to be accessible to all Cameroonians without financial burden.
