Clinton Njie will play Europa League with Sivaspor!
Cameroon international, Clinton Njie, has signed a 2-year contract with Turkish Premier league club Sivaspor with a possibility of extension to July 2025. The former Tottenham winger put pen to paper on July 30, 2022.
Both parties agreed to collaborate after close to two weeks of negotiations. Njie was being courted by several French clubs notably Nice, Lens and Angers. There was also interest from the Golf (Qatar, Saudi Arabia) and China. The former Lyon striker completely snobbed interest from Asia.
“Sivaspor are an ambitious club with a very good fan base and attractive project”, Njie told Katch Sports+.
The 2017 Afcon winner says ” I want to enjoy every moment on the pitch representing the colours of Sivass”.
“Let me also use this opportunity to thank those who have been praying for me and wishing me well.
“It’s not been easy recently but like I said last time not every failure is a disappointment. Some are filed with positive experience for a better future”
On his choice for Sivaspor whereas there were several other clubs courting his signature, the Buea native said; “I want to continue playing at the highest level. We have a possibility of playing in the up-coming Europa league”.
Sivaspor are in the playoffs of Europe’s second biggest club competition, the Europa league. “I want to help the club win trophies”, Njie added.
Sivaspor are one of the most competitive clubs in the Turkish Premier league. Last season, they participated in the Europa conference league but got booted out in the third round of the playoffs.
They finished in the 10th in the league last season but won the Turkish cup to qualify for the Europa League playoffs. They will know their opponents on August 2 when the draw is made.
“The president has assured me that the objective is to finish top of the table this season”, Njie said on the objective of his new club.
One of his new team mates is Ivory Coast captain Max Alain Gradel. Both men played in the 2015 Afcon in Equatorial Guinea and will be looking to help their club win big this season.
Another chapter has thus opened for Njie.
