Heavy downpours halt traffic in the Far North
Governor Midjiyawa Bakary has ordered that heavy duty trucks be prohibited from using the Mora-Kousseri road. The order was passed on August 5 2022 following the degrading state of the Mora-Kousseri road.
The circulation of heavy duty trucks especially those coming from Nigeria has been suspended for an undetermined period to protect the road which is already being washed away by the heavy downpour. The Mora-Kousseri road links Cameroon to Nigeria and Chad.
Since the start of August, several neighbourhoods have been invaded by water creating artificial lakes and increasing cost of transportation. Travelling from Maroua to Yaounde, a 1500km distance now costs FCFA17000 while the Maroua-Kousseri distance with less than 270km is F CFA20.000.
