Handball: Lions begin camping ahead of Nations Cup
By Stephen TADAHA.
The Senior Men’s Handball Lions of Cameroon began camping on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the Presidential Gaurd complex in Obili, Yaoundé. The camping is in preparation for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations to take place in Egypt from January 19-29.
In a prelude to the competition, a working session was chaired by the SG, Paulin Youmsi at the headquarters of the Cameroon Handball Federation on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. A session which gathered the technical staff and some of the players called up at the start of the month of November, with the objective of presenting them the Federation’s new vision.
Officials said their vision is to restore the past glory of Cameroon’s Handball at the continental level. A vision well taken into consideration by the Head coach, Simon Bouchard who promised to implement excellence and discipline within his team, to attain the fixed goals.
It should be noted that Cameroon’s senior team has never won the Africa Nations Championship and its best performances were the runner-up place (silver medal) in 1974 in Tunisia and a bronze medal in 1976 in Algeria.
Another outstanding performance from the team was during the African Games in 1978 where the team got a silver medal.
Since then, the team has not been able to reach the semi-finals of the Africa Nations championship.
Should this be the moment?
