Gunshots heard in Foumban again

Calm has returned in Foumban, Noun division of the West region after a misunderstanding between a commercial bike rider and a police officer led to the police officer firing a warning shot that unfortunately injured the bike rider.

The incident that occurred last Saturday April 16 sparked an uprise the enraged population as they marched in the streets and almost set fire to the police station of Foumban in manifestation of their disapproval of this act.

It is thanks to the intervention of the Senior divisional officer for the Noun division, Donacien Um and of the Sultan of the Bamoun people, Nabil Mbombo Njoya that calm returned. The opportunity was used to call on the population to promote social coexistence and respect state institutions.

The injured bike rider was taken to a health facility where he is currently receiving medical attention.
