GTHS Mbangassina without administrative block and water
Government Technical High School Mbangassina in the Mbam and Kim division of the Centre region has been functioning without an administrative block and water: issues which existed since creation of the school. The office of the Senior Discipline Master and the staff room are found in a carpentry workshop of this educational establishment.
“Imagine your office in such a noisy place. How will you work or cope? It’s difficult. The staff room is also in the carpentry workshop. How can teachers hold deliberations effectively or concentrate on their activities?” Dieudonné Mballa Ndongo, the school’s Principal wonders.
Some offices are created in-between the school buildings with one made of makeshift materials.
Another problem is lack of water to ease the practical lessons of civil engineering as well as food science students. Not even a bore hole is available in the school to help these students.
“As civil engineering students we need water to mold bricks and to construct. Same goes for our mates studying food science. They need water to wash food stuffs, dishes and to cook food. At times we need water to drink. Most often we are obliged to bring water from our homes for our practical works” a students explains.
To the civil engineering students, their case is not as critical as that of the food science mates because they make use of water they get from a swamp found about 4 km behind their school.
Inadequate power supply and the inaccessible nature of the school compound during the rainy season are additional challenges GTHS Mbangassina students and teachers confront.
