Gov’t seeks ways to eradicate HIV/AIDS in Cameroon
The National HIV Survey in Cameroon revealed that 3.7 percent of adults are living with HIV in Cameroon, representing approximately 500,000 individuals.
In line with this statistic, the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Malaouda Malachi stated that the eradication of the virus in Cameroon will stem from answering questions to the infected and affected citizens.
He made the remarks during the opening of the 2nd Stationary meeting of the National Committee for the Fight against Aids, CNLS.
“Ladies and gentlemen, in the context of eradication of HIV/AIDS by 2030, and in our respective capacities as members of this national body for the coordination and decision-making on the response to HIV/AIDS in Cameroon, we have an obligation to provide concrete answers to the concerns of our infected and/or affected citizens,” the Minister said.
He further stated; “This meeting is therefore a duty and place for all multisectoral actors and partners engaged with the state of Cameroon to bring their stone to the eradication of the HIV pande, in our country,”.
Cameroon’s National Strategic Plan against HIV and STIs lays the groundwork for a response against these epidemics in Cameroon from 2021-2023. This plan is said to be in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end the HIV epidemic by 2030 and brings together the government and various stakeholders in achieving this goal.
