Gov’t launches online pre-enrollment system for NID

Cameroonians can now pre-enroll online for their National Identity Cards, as the newly implemented system went live on Monday, February 17. The announcement was made by Martin Mbarga Nguele, Delegate General for National Security (DGSN) earlier this year.
The process, which is designed to streamline the issuance of national identity cards, includes two main phases: an online pre-enrollment phase and a physical enrollment phase.
To begin the online process, applicants must visit the official website at www.idcam.cm, follow the instructions, provide necessary personal details, and schedule an appointment for the collection of biometric data. The DGSN has specified that the online pre-enrollment process will incur a fee of FCFA 10,000, payable via mobile money.
The physical enrollment phase, which is set to begin on February 24, 2025, will be available to those who have completed the online pre-enrollment process. Applicants will need to visit any regional identification post to finalize the process. This phase will cost FCFA 5,500, covering fees for a tax stamp, nationality certificate, and a certified copy of the birth certificate.
Once all procedures are completed, applicants can expect to receive their National Identity Cards within 48 hours, according to the DGSN.
It is important to note that existing ID card receipts will remain valid until the new ID cards are issued. However, individuals holding receipt slips will still need to re-enroll using the new system in order to obtain their updated cards.
This reform is intended to address the long delays and challenges associated with the issuance of National Identity Cards in Cameroon. By introducing this online pre-enrollment system, the government aims to offer a more modern, efficient, and secure approach to managing citizen identification, ultimately reducing wait times and ensuring reliable identification for all Cameroonians.
