Girl kidnapped by brother’s gang reunites with family

A girl named Samira Bala, 12, is back with her family, after she was kidnapped and moved from Bertoua to Yaounde.

She went missing on Tuesday, January 3, after going out to buy bread at around 6:00 am. The abductors took her while she was looking for a shop where she could get the item.

“I went to the shop next door, the keeper had no coins so I decided to move towards the junction,” she said.

“On my way, I saw a boy talking on phone. He quickly moved towards me, then I noticed there was another one behind. The one behind slapped me and that’s how they bundled me into a car nearby. Once in the car, I noticed my elder brother was amongst them,” Samira revealed.

Her family became worried when they realized she had spent over two hours without returning from the shop.

“Her absence drew my attention so I called her father. We looked for her until a strange person called from Yaounde, asking if I was Samira’s mother. He said she was found around the courthouse.”

The girl’s mother, Lamy Edith Backoe, said she was not surprised her son was among the kidnappers “I’m not surprised by my son’s actions. He is a rogue who loves to live lavishly but is very lazy” the woman said.
