GECAM Urges “Government of Action” as Reshuffle Delay, Fuels Uncertainty

By Synthia Lateu

The Union of Cameroonian Enterprises (GECAM) has called for a “Government of Action” capable of restoring public trust and driving economic growth.

In a recent statement, the organisation said the real test for the government lies in the actions it will implement, rather than in appointments alone.

The appeal comes nearly a month after President Paul Biya announced in his end-of-year address that a government reshuffle was forthcoming. Since then, political observers, civil society groups, and the wider public have been awaiting the reshuffle, but it has yet to materialise.

GECAM said: “Only clear governance, resolutely oriented towards the well-being of Cameroonians, will be able to restore trust, stimulate investment, and build sustainable and inclusive growth.”

The union also highlighted the pressures facing the Cameroonian economy. At the international level, uncertainty remains high, with persistent geopolitical tensions, tighter financial conditions, volatile commodity markets, and slowing global growth putting increased strain on national economic stability.

Domestically, while growth prospects are generally positive, GECAM warned that structural challenges continue to hamper development. The private sector, a key driver of wealth and job creation, still contends with administrative bottlenecks, high tax burdens, limited access to financing, energy shortages, deteriorating infrastructure, high logistics costs, and regulatory instability.

On top of these structural hurdles, the effects of the post-electoral period are still being felt, influencing both the business climate and the morale of economic actors, GECAM added.
