Fundong: Guests house construction project to generate employment for youth
As a means of providing shelter for tourists in the Fundong municipality, a guest house is under construction beside the Fundong council.
In an exclusive interview with first deputy mayor, Chia Ernest Tufoin, on October 5, 2022, he revealed that the project is from the ministry of tourism an will take 90 days to be completed.
According to the First Deputy Mayor, thanks to this project, employment opportunities have been created for the youth of Fundong:
“Recently, the Fundong council has gone into many projects that can yield some income. Some of these employment strategies are the construction of the guest house, construction of the ongoing 108-shed market and creation of a fish pond- all constructed by youth which generate them some income. Beside the guest house, there is also the construction of an office floor which will be given out for any office without a space, to rent. This will generate income for the council.”
In order not to only develop the environment but keep the population busy, the council encourages the people of Fundong to construct houses through its creation of a small unit in charge of the production of blocks, he added:
“A lot of projects are in the pipeline for the Fundong people. For instance, we have the project on the supply of solar energy to the Fundong community which we will encourage everyone to have in their homes. It will help curb the electricity issues we are having everyday. We also have 40 boys and girls of Fundong undergoing training in Bamenda on computer software for a duration of 6 months. The knowledge and skills they will gain from this training will help them gain employment and do better for themselves and their community as well,” he concluded.
While the Fundong council is braving all odds to make the municipality a better place, the youth of the community are not left behind as they are included in the development process.
