Fru Ndi underfire, party bigwigs reject exclusion from NEC, demand extraordinary elective Congress, else…

Angered by a recent cabinet shakeup within the opposition party, the Social Democratic Front, SDF, and 27 party bigwigs have criticized the decision taken by the National Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi, calling on those replaced to remain in office until the end of their mandate.

Meeting in Mbouda, West Region on June 22, 2022, the disgruntled members including National Vice Presidents, Secratries, regional Presidents, Mayors, Deputies, and others said the National Chairman violated the constitution by appointing in some positions, persons who have not spent up to five years in the party.

The disgruntled party dons called on the President to suspend the appointments made on June 16, 2022, external auditing on party funds, demand the bank not to release funds destined to the President of the party without approval from the National Treasurer, and demand the holding of an urgent National Executive Meeting, NEC, to decide on the date of an extraordinary Congress that will see a new Chairman elected.

They promised to take the matter to another level to “save” the party should the Chairman fail to consider their request.

Invisible Hands of Hon. Nintcheu?

The first National Vice President, Hon. Joshua Osih, is not a signatory to this ultimatum given to the party’s chairman. However, there are suspicions that the Regional President of the party, Hon. jean Michel Nintcheu is the master planner of the Mbouda declaration.

He has been in a cold war in the past years with the former as both men eye the seat after Fru Ndi. June 16, 2022 appointments seem to have favored Osih. It is suspected that Nintcheu succeeded to gather his supporters, those loyal to him and a few disgruntled former Shadow Cabinet members to mount Fru Ndi pressure.
