Four soldiers dismissed from military for pledging allegiance to Bamoun King
KOUTABA, Cameroon (CNA) — Four newly recruited soldiers have been dismissed from the armed forces by Defense Minister Joseph Beti Assomo due to their involvement in a controversial incident on December 23, 2023, at the Bamoun Sultanate in the Noun division of the West region.
NJINCHOUT ABANA EL JAMIL, NJIAWOUO ISAAC, FIFEN OUSSENI, and NCHOUWET PATRICE, all natives of the village, were among 32 individuals who pledged allegiance publicly to Sultan Nabil Mbombo Njoya of the Bamoun.
“I speak on behalf of the 32 sons from the Noun division training at the military instruction center of Koutaba since June 3, 2023. We are proud to be the first-ever generation of this training to exceed 30 from the Noun division. We represent 3% of the 2022 contingent of the recruits… we also propose to consider security issues during the next royal outings,” declared the commander of the 32 men in a video that circulated on social media.
The decision to revoke the positions of the four soldiers was made on June 10, 2024, and announced publicly on June 12 by the Minister of Defense. Their dismissal also includes the termination of their engagement contracts.
