Former Nigerian deputy Senate President, Wife arrested in UK for alleged organ harvesting

The UK Police announced that they had arrested former Vice President of Nigeria’s Senate between 2007 -2019, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife for alleged organ harvesting, the Vanguard has reported.

The Police said they had been investigating the case since May 2022 when they received an alert that the Senator was planning to harvest kidney from a boy to save his daughter.
The statement from the Police read “Beatrice Nwaneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.


“Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting. They have both been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court later today (yesterday).”

After their arrest, a letter has surfaced online. The letter from the former Senate Vice President shows that he had informed the UK embassy of his intention to carry out the act.

The letter also reveals the name of the donor, Ukpa David.

Reports say the donor is a minor and had been cajoled to doing so, but the UK Police gave no further information about the matter.
