Former Defense, transport minister jailed for 30 years
Cameroon’s Special Criminal Court, on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, slammed a 30-year jail sentence on former Minister of transport, defense, and national security, Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo’o.
He was found guilty of embezzling the sum of FCFA 23.943 billion for over-invoicing on the purchase of war materials from Brazil, at the time he served as Minister of Defense. His wife Bernadette Mebe Ngo’o was found guilty of complicity in the embezzlement of public funds FCFA 5 billion.
In another case, the former Defense boss was found not guilty of embezzlement of FCFA 196 billion.
Another defendant, MBANGUE Maxime Léonard was found guilty of complicity in the embezzlement of the sum of FCFA 6.402 billion while Lt. Colonel Mboutou was found guilty of embezzlement of FCFA 16 billion.
They were also found guilty of money laundering.
