Fon of Nkwen reminds Biya of abandoned Bamenda referral hospital
During the just ended Bamenda III Festival of Heritage, Arts and Culture, FEHACU, the Fon of Nkwen brought forth the hospital issue.
Speaking to North West Governor Adolphe Lele l’Afrique, personal representative of the Head of State, Fon Azehfor III questioned the referral hospital contract and pleaded with president Paul Biya that he reacts so that works can resume at the construction site.
“We applaud your stewardship of the nation and your dedication to achieving the National Development Strategy 2020-30. We appeal for the resumption of work on the referral hospital that has been abandoned for many years,” Fon Azehfor said.
According to Fon Azehfor III, the F CFA 15 billion presidential gift referral hospital, which was supposed to be of good use to the Faculty of Health Science of the Bamenda University and the population has been abandoned for a long time now.
“The referral hospital will be instrumental in providing quality healthcare to our people and students of the University of Bamenda,” Fon Azehfor added.
It is more than five years since the foundation stone of the Bamenda referral hospital was laid (that was back in May 2017) by the former minister of Public Health, Andre Mama Fouda. Since then, the 18 apartment contract has been abandoned.
In February 2021, a parliamentary commission headed by Hon. Emmanuel Banmi visited the site and promised to sort things out but one year after, the site remains abandoned.
