We won Brazil but got eliminated shoulders high-Epassy Devis

Team captain, Vincent Aboubakar, head coach Rigobert Song and goalkeeper, Epassy Devis Mboka, all that they are eliminated from the world cup Qatar 2022, but they are satisfied with Cameroon’s performance.

“We had a job to win and we did. We demonstrated that we can beat a big team. We are happy of ourselves and it gives confidence to us. We are leaving shoulders high,” Epassy said.

Cameroon beat Brazil 1-0 on Friday December 2, 2022 but could bot qualify to the 16th round after Switzerland beat Serbia 3-2.

Though eliminated, the Indomitable Lions created history by being the first African side to beat Brazil in a world cup and the first country to end Brazil’s 17 unbeaten groups games in a world cup.

Cameroon leaves with four points, going home as best losers.

“It is a young team, we will master with experience…this will let us improve in future…I am happy for my players because they showed us that they are fighters. The only regret I have is that we think that we would have done better but this is a young team. I know that the supporters are a bit angry but I am happy they stood by us.” Cameroons head coach, Rigobert Song told bEIN sport.

Cameroon is the only African country to beat Brazil in major competitions like the Confederations Cup, the Olympic Games and the World Cup. Before the World Cup, team captain, Vincent Aboubakar said he doesn’t envy Brazil because he has Hope’s they can beat the team.


“We had talked about our encounter and I told my colleagues that we can make it against Brazil. It’s a good victory but we could not qualify, it didn’t depend on us because the Swiss won their match.We are leaving the world cup with shoulders high.” Aboubakar said.


Though the South Americans topped group G with six points, they had as objective to win all their matches until Cameroon upset the plans.

“Our objective was to become first in our group which was difficult we didn’t want a defeat in this competition. It was a difficult group.” Fabinho told reporters

Brazil and Switzerland qualify from group G.
