Firefighters’ brigade reiterates commitment to save lives

Untimeliness, lack of essential equipment and materials, and firefighters not being present in all areas of the country are some of the setbacks outlined by the population as far as the work done by the firefighting brigade is concerned.

“Most times during accidents or fire incidents before their arrival, major damages have already been incurred,” CNA learned.

In this light, the firefighters’ brigade in Cameroon has taken the commmitment to be very present in all areas of the country and to work in collaboration with the population in all life-saving operations. This was during their general command meeting held on February 1 2023 in Yaounde.

The meeting which was presided over by the Commander of the firefighting brigade, General Mahamat Ahmet had as objective to make a balance sheet of their achievements in 2022 and make projections for the year 2023.

According to the authorities, the results were satisfactory though they faced some major setbacks.
“The potentials of our equipment are beyond their operational capacities it has been a great challenge but our men have been doing their best with the least they have. The population should try with these difficulties to be the first to organize rescue as they have been doing their best to sensitize the population on the first step to take when there is an incident,” noted the second in command, Colonel Petatoa Poufong.

It was also noted that material and human resources are vital in achieving the said goals.
“The perspective is to fight the equipment challenge. We have a great project coming up with the French company, Desotel to acquire more than 200 fire trucks, this is one of our greatest challenges,” he added.

They insist on the collaboration of the population in order for field operations to be made easier.
