Fire Guts Several Buildings at Bamenda Regional Hospital

A fire has destroyed a significant portion of the administrative block at the Bamenda Regional Hospital, causing extensive material damage but no reported loss of life, Observer237 reported on Tuesday.

The blaze, which broke out late Monday night, engulfed several key offices, including the hospital library, conference hall, the offices of the Medical Adviser and General Supervisor, the chaplaincy, records sections, and other administrative departments. Furniture, computers, office equipment, medical records, and important documents were reduced to ashes.

Hospital staff, residents, and firefighters battled the flames for several hours before bringing the situation under control. Emergency services prevented the fire from spreading to patient wards and other critical medical facilities, allowing healthcare services to continue with minimal disruption.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire, although an investigation has been launched. Hospital officials are assessing the full extent of the damage and working on measures to ensure the continuity of administrative services while reconstruction plans are considered, CNA learned.

The Bamenda Regional Hospital is one of the North West Region’s principal referral health facilities, serving thousands of patients from across the region and neighboring areas. The destruction of its administrative offices is expected to temporarily affect hospital operations, particularly record management and administrative coordination.
