FIFA Sanctions: Here are the African countries fined

The Disciplinary Committee of the world football governing body, FIFA, has made public dozens of decisions https://digitalhub.fifa.com/m/30706d9b9891f42d/original/Disciplinary-Overview_Qualifiers-for-the-FIFA-World-Cup-Qatar-2022.pdf taken to sanction countries that went against FIFA rules in previous games.

For allowing fans to throw objects on the pitch, and use laser objects, Senegal was fine more than FCFA 111 million. It is believed that Egyptian star Mohammed Salah was disturbed by this laser as he missed a penalty shootout.

Nigeria is slammed with the second-highest fines of more than FCFA 96 million for the pitch invasion, destruction of properties, and throwing of objectives on the pitch during the March third place world cup qualification playoff with Ghana. This unfortunate incident led to the death of a medical doctor. Nigeria was eliminated.

The Democratic Republic of Congo has been fined a whopping FCFA 76 million, for “order and security at matches (throwing of objects, invasion of the field of play, failure to ensure that law and order are maintained in the stadium and that the match is organized properly). This was the game pitting Morocco on March 25, 2022.

On her part, Cameroon was fined over USD 10, 000 for allowing fans to invade the pitch after a world cup qualifying game with Ivory Coast.

Algeria fined more than FCFA 1.9 million for allowing fans to throw stones on the pitch after they were eliminated by Cameroon in March 2022.

Six individual sanctions were meted out against Egypt with a fine of FCFA 3.8 million.

Morocco did not escape from the fines, the north African side was fined FCFA 19 million for “order and security at matches (lighting of fireworks, throwing of objects and blocked stairways)”

Namibia was warned of the team’s misconduct in November 2021 when they delayed presenting themselves against Congo.

The Central African Republic was banned for nine games and a fine of FCFA 6.3 million for disrespect toward match officials.

Algeria’s case is peculiar because the desert foxes had appealed FIFA to review the game pitting Cameroon. If FIFA sanctions them for poor behavior after the match, then what awaits them on their petition could be a bitter pill to swallow for the noisy losers.
