Mahmoud Trezeguet’s brace ensured a triumph for Egypt’s Pharaohs in their second World Cup qualifiers against Sierra Leone.
The Leone Stars opened up confident and determined to draw or earn a victory against their counterparts, exerting a considerable amount of pressure in the opening 15 minutes of the game, controlling most of it and creating several opportunities.
The Pharaohs launched a counter-attack, surprising Sierra Leone and scoring the first goal at the 18th minute, despite being aware of the challenging nature of the match due to their away status.
Tyresone Fornah of Sierra Leone received a red card at the 34th minute, further tipping the scales in favor of the Pharaohs but the Leone Stars managed to prevent conceding another goal before half-time.
The Leone Stars could not stave off Trezeguet’s second goal, which was made possible due to Mohamed Salah’s excellent pass which came in at the 62nd minute to to wrap up the score.
With a total of six points after two matches, Egypt comfortably sits at the top of their group, eagerly anticipating the upcoming matches in March 2024, following the AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire.
