Fianga says doing comedy to put smile on parents’ faces

Three months after leaving the Kondengui Central Prison in Yaounde, where she was detained for obscene publications online, Cynthia Fianga is now a comedian.

The 18-year-old has said she wants to make amends for the shame and pain she caused her family and friends.

During the 2021 Total Energies AFCON in Cameroon, the girl went viral on social media, through immoral posts of herself. This led to her arrest in July 2022. She spent three months behind bars.

Now, Cynthia is making the world understand she is a changed person, and wants to prove it through her comedy. “It’s because I disappointed my parents. I told myself that let me put a smile on my parents’ faces” she said on Sun Plus TV.

“They appreciate it very much, they are proud” the teenager highlighted.

She is working with skit maker, Zizou, who had approached her parents to convince them about the initiative.

“I met her parents with my collaborators on two occasions,” he said. “I tried to talk to her parents and I told them that in this fight, I’m not going to be alone. I told them I’ll do what I can do at my level,” the skit maker stated.

Fianga’s decision to do comedy has been received with mixed reactions by the public. While some are happy she is now into a decent activity, many think she had to go back to school, while taking therapy to help her overcome stigma.
