FENASSCO A Games: Prof Nalova Lyonga frowns over mattress theft

By Charity Nginyu

During the closing ceremony of the FENASSCO A games held at the Centenary Stadium, bitterness permeated the air as Professor Nalova Lyonga, Cameroon’s Minister of Secondary Education, expressed her dismay over the theft of student mattresses.

“We have lost mattresses. It is shameful that you come here, you sleep here, the town of friendship has given you all the friendship that they have given you and then you steal mattresses. Why are you stealing mattresses?” Prof Nalova Lyonga said in disappointment.

She promised to hold the perpetrators accountable without disclosing the exact number of mattresses stolen.

In addition to addressing the theft, Prof Nalova Lyonga revealed that 8 athletes had been suspended from FENASSCO for the next three years, though the nature of their transgressions remained undisclosed.

Despite these challenges, she announced that the East region would host the next games, emphasizing the need for continued commitment to the values of integrity and respect.

Amidst these concerns, the Centre region emerged victorious once again, reclaiming their title as champions of the FENASSCO A games.

With a total of 57 prizes, including 36 gold, 11 silver, and 11 bronze medals, the Centre region showcased their dominance in the sporting arena.

This victory marks their fourth consecutive win, following their triumphs in the 2019, 2022, and 2023 editions of the games.
