FECAFOOT to MINSEP: “We have the right to amend our statutes”

The Cameroon Football Federation under Samuel Eto’o, has pushed back against the Ministry of Sports, asserting its right to amend its statutes without external approval.

This comes after the Minister of Sports requested explanations for changes to several articles, citing the need for conformity control as per Law No. 2018/014.

In a letter to the minister, Fecafoot pointed out that the control of conformity provided for in Article 7 of Law No. 2018/014 is a control of legality, not an opportunity to question the motives behind the statutory revisions.

Furthermore, FECAFOOT stated that the modifications were made to adapt the federation’s texts to the requirements of modernization imposed by FIFA and CAF, as well as to improve the functioning of the institution.

Fecafoot told the minister that the Federation’s enemies who asked the minister to intervene and review the federation’s statutes for conformity, have now taken the matter to court, seeking to annul the recently adopted changes to the federation’s statutes.

The “enemies” Fecafoot is likely referring to is SYNAFOC, after the latter wrote to the Minister of Sports, pointing out that the football federation had made several changes to its statutes without obtaining the necessary conformity control. This move prompted the minister to demand clarification from FECAFOOT regarding the amended statutes.

Fecafoot made amends to about 8 articles in the Fecafoot statutes, with the most notable being the increase in terms of office for each president, from 2 terms to 3 terms of 4 years each.
