FECAFOOT receives USD 6.5 million from FIFA FORWARD project

The Cameroon Football Federation has received USD 6.5 million from the world football governing body FIFA, for the development of football in the country, Eto’o has announced.

The FECAFOOT President held a press conference on Tuesday, July 18, and said “FIFA has once more renewed its confidence in us”.

The financial support came within the framework of the FIFA FORWARD project launched in 2016.

Member associations benefit from the FIFA assistance, which is meant to develop local football in all six confederations.

“For weeks now, a team from FIFA was in our establishment for an audit. At the end of the audit, we proceeded to the signing of the contract on the FIFA FORWARD 3.0 project in which FIFA gave us a maximum amount of USD 6.5 million which will enable the federation to attain fixed objectives from 2023 to 2026” Eto’o said.

“We will be able to construct the proximity stadiums that we hoped for, and also accompany the action of the Cameroon government so that young Cameroonians who don’t have the chance to play in Japoma, or at Olembe, can play in these stadiums” the FECAFOOT president indicated.

He also mentioned the compensation allocated to clubs whose players participated in the Qatar World Cup. Coton Sport of Garoua, Colombe FC and Apejes received USD 401,515.

The World Cup benefits programme is equally meant to foster the development of local football by encouraging clubs.

With the FIFA FORWARD initiative, over USD 2.5 billion has been distributed to the 211 member associations since the project was launched in 2016. FIFA said it intends to increase the support.
