West Region: Woman among bandits nabbed by gendarmes

The Seven suspects, including a woman, were arrested and presented to the public by members of the West Gendarmerie Legion.

The operation was part of a special clean-up operation ordered by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie, ETOGA Galax Yves Landry.

Speaking during their presentation to the public, on October 23, 2023, the SDO for the Upper Plateau Division, of the West, Ernest Christian Ebelle Essaka said “The operation was born as a result of the high wave of banditry in the Division. Among the arrested are highway robbers, and burglars, to mention but these.”

Some of them who escaped arrest were investigated and apprehended in Douala and Yaounde.

Eight motorcycles, a loaded vehicle, flat screen TV set, a gas bottle, knives, and other items in their keeping were confiscated.

“It is thanks to the collaboration of the population that we succeeded in arresting these suspects. Many of them are still out there. We beg them to side with us to win this fight against criminality in all its forms”. Implored Lt. Col.Fidelis Morfaw, 2nd commander at West Gendarmerie Legion.

Some onlookers at the presentation seized the opportunity to narrate how they were victims.
