Estelle Johnson engaged to longtime boyfriend
Cameroon female international, Estelle Johnson, has accepted to marry her longtime boyfriend, Jonathan Mason.
The centre-back who is expecting a baby boy as she announced in February, shared photos of the proposal which took place during her baby shower a week ago.
She has described her fiancé as the best thing that has ever happened in her life. “I can’t lose when I’m with you…and I’m so ready to spend the rest of our lives proving that to one another” she wrote on Instagram.
The 35-year-old said she and her partner have made it a priority to raise their child, instilling in him the values of “self-advocacy” and “dialogue”. She said the values got her to where she is today. “I go into this parenting phase of my life fully confident that I will be a pretty good example of how to create dialogue around the things that matter, speak when things feel uncomfortable” she said.
Estelle, currently signed to National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club North Carolina Courage, was born in Maroua, in the Far North region of Cameroon to an American father and a Malian mother. Despite leaving Cameroon to several other countries and ending up in the US due to the nature of his father’s job, she decided to play with the Indomitable Lionesses. She joined the national team in 2019.
