Douala (Cameroon), September 13, 2025 — The ASAF Cameroon Foundation celebrated the talent and creativity of young writers at the awards ceremony for the national writing competition, held on September 13 in Douala. Winners, families, and literature enthusiasts gathered to highlight the imagination of the young participants.
Launched in early August by the ASAF Cameroon Foundation, created by Eran Moas, the competition was a resounding success with more than 150 participants from across the country, representing different social classes and regions, including the North and NWSW, in addition to major cities and capitals. True to its mission of placing education at the heart of its actions, the foundation is committed to strengthening access to school and promote gender equality. Girls’ enrollment in secondary school remains low, with only 43% of them enrolled according to UNESCO. Through this competition, the foundation offers young people a real space for expression and development, open to all, regardless of background or region.
Honorary ambassador for the competition and winner of the 2020 Prix Goncourt des Lycéens, Djaili Amal Amadou read the participants’ texts and rewarded the most remarkable ones. Known for her writing that inspires and supports children from disadvantaged backgrounds, she has been running writing workshops in neighborhood libraries for two years, promoting creativity and personal expression. During the ceremony, she praised the texts for their sensitivity and imagination.
To ensure balanced representation and highlight the diversity of talent, the winners were divided into three age categories.
8-10 years old: Amina Aïda Tikire (8), Samuel Providence Akim (9), Abigail Ngebi Tanwie (10 years old).
11-13 years old: Gloriane Abigail Wabon Boh (13 years old), Mansour Hamadou (12 years old), Grâce Stéphanie Winidy Haman (13 years old).
14-16 years old: Adora Tiangueu Emako (15 years old), Noëlla Grâce Delemouele (14 years old), Ashmen Paam (16 years old).
A special prize was also awarded to Christelle Bime (15 years old) for the quality of her writing.
The winners received bags, tablets, school supplies, and other practical gifts to help them succeed academically. All participants, whether they were able to attend the ceremony or not, will receive a school bag and a certificate of participation, recognizing their creativity and commitment.
“With this competition, we wanted to show young people that writing is not just a school exercise, but also a way to express themselves, gain confidence, and plan for the future. It is a source of pride to see their enthusiasm,” said Eran Moas, founder of the ASAF Cameroon Foundation.
For her part, Djaili Amal Amadou recalled that “writing is the power of words. It transforms, liberates, and inspires.”
Beyond the competition, the ASAF Cameroon Foundation continues its commitment to promoting access to culture and reading. It supports the work of Djaili Amal Amadou community libraries by providing them with books and textbooks, enabling young people to continue creating, learning, and dreaming throughout the year.
With this initiative, the foundation reaffirms its belief that every word can be a force for change. By giving young people a voice, ASAF Cameroon aims to create a space where ideas can circulate, be debated, and be reinforced, including all young people in the country, regardless of their region or social background.
This competition is just one step in a broader commitment: to strengthen young people’s confidence in their ability to write their own stories, while providing them with practical tools for success. The ambition is clear: to make reading and writing levers for academic, personal, and civic success.
The 2026 edition is already in preparation, with the goal of reaching even more young people across Cameroon and expanding access to writing workshops in community libraries.
