Enviromental crisis feared as Mount Bamboutos keeps degrading

The Mount Bamboutos landscape that cuts across three regions: West, South West and North West has for the past years been severely affected by the human activities exerted on it leading to its rapid degradation.

The Mountain that has a water tower that supplies 60% of the local population in these regions even during the dry season but this could be history in the next decade if action is not taken. This is why a sustainable management team headed by Tsangue Giselle, Lord Mayor of Babadjou, has been put in place to restore this landscape.

The team was put in place this August 16th in Bafoussam during a workshop organized for the signing of the decentralized cooperation convention and the establishment of a board for the sustainable management of the Mount Bamboutos landscape. The workshop was organised by Rainforest Alliance, an NGO, in partnership with the United Nations Environment Program and Cameroon’s ministry of the environment and nature protection. This board will henceforth plan and implement the project’s activities.
