Endless inter-communal conflicts preoccupy Adamawa elites

Elites of Tibati in the Adamawa region of Cameroon have said that economic, socio-political differences and religious antagonism principally between the Fulani and Muslim communities account for multiple inter-communal clashes which have forced many people to flee and seek refuge in the neighbouring Chad Republic.

These conflicts they say, have claimed many lives and dictated laws in the land with authorities putting in very little or no effort to put an end to this occurence threatening the peace and security of the region.

“The administration has to take stringent measures to solve this problem because if authorities continue neglecting it, cohabitation will disappear from the Adamawa region,” and elite opinionates.

During an annual security coordination meeting, the Governor of the Adamawa region, Kildadi Taguieke Boukar assured the complaining elites that security will be beefed-up to tackle any form of organized crimes or unlawful practices for peace to reign:

“The year is almost coming to an end. With rise the in theft and criminal activities during this period of the year, there is an absolute need to increase security to protect the lives and property of the people.”

While assuring the elites of the Adamawa region of the joint efforts of local administrative authorities and forces of law and order to reinforce security, traditional rulers were reminded of the vital role they have to play in putting an end to conflicts.
