Elite One Championship: YOSA suffers another defeat, PWD rekindles hopes of a playoff spot and Opopo walked over

By Stephen TADAHA

The MTN Elite One Championship entered day 5 action of the weekend with Clubs from the English-speaking regions registering contrasting results.

The major incident that marked the weekend was Victoria United’s absence in their match against APEJES. The players did not show up and consequently were walked over.

Another incident was Yong Sports’ second defeat in 4 games played so far, placing the Yellow Submarines of Bamenda at the bottom of group B with just 2 points.

A poor performance was caused by some tactical errors, especially in the goalkeeping department, and the late start in preparations as told us by Coach Blaise Ndikum of YOSA.

” Lack of concentration again on the part of the goalkeeper this day was the major cause of our defeat. We multiplied chances and could not transform them. The only shot on target for them, ended up in the net,” said Coach Ndikum Blaise who also blamed late preparations as the cause of the poor start registered by the yellow submarines this season.

“The main problem for now is that we started our preparations late, that’s two weeks to the competition. Since we have a young team, with time they will adapt” added Coach Ndikum.

The team’s next game promises to be another difficult one as they travel to Garoua to face heavyweights Coton on day 6. Coach Blaise Ndikum promises to use another strategy in that game.

” We’ll go back to our drawing board and keep on working. There’s no tough game, all games are the same. We’ll simply travel there we’ll prepared” added Coach Ndikum.

The good news of the weekend for Clubs in the English-speaking regions was PWD’s victory 1-0 over AS Fortuna. The victory which is the second of the season, puts the Abakwa Boys on 7 points and the 6th position in group A.

The top match of day 5 was that between Dynamo and Bamboutos FC of Mbouda. A game that ended 2-1 in favor of the Mangwa Boys.

The precious victory puts the Mangwa Boys in the second position in group A with 9 points. A group still led by Dynamo with 10 points.

Other day 5 Results were as follows.

In group A Colombe defeated Astres 2-1, Canon played a 0-0 draw with Union and Aigle were held to a 1-1 draw by Gazelle.

In group B, Coton thrashed UMS 4-1. A delayed day 5 game will be played this Monday between Fauve Azur and Fovu.
