Dschang: tensions high as +100 youths below 20 years arrested, locked up in hall

Parents and guardians of over 100 children below the age of 20 have stormed the premises of “Maison du Partie” in Dschang West region of Cameroon early Tuesday, January 2, 2024 demanding the release of their kids arrested by some security officers.

The children were arrested on the night of January 1, as they went out to celebrate the New Year. They were bundled for allegedly keeping late night and locked up in the said party hall.

All of them were ordered to lay down facing the floor before being flogged. Sources said some of the freed children reported the police men poured water and urine on them.

Knowing fully well they are minors, the officers allegedly demanded from each of them, the sum of F CFA 5,000 for their release. Unfortunately, almost all of them did not have the demanded sum and were compelled to sleep in the hall.

They were only rescued by their disturbed parents who learned of the incident and rushed to the place to protest. Their incessant noise forced security forces to release the youngsters.
