Drivers trade union demand that fuel be made available immediately

“We demand the immediate supply of fuel in all fuel stations across the country.” The national trade union of professional drivers of Cameroon writes to the minister of trade.

In a correspondence dated July 17 2022, the body denounces persistent fuel scarcity despite government assurance made during a meeting on March 23 2022.

“We were told there will be available fuel to carry on with our activities but two months after, the reality is bitter” they lament.

Members of the trade union denounce the unhealthy competition they face in the transport sector, the hike in prices of engine oil and other automobile accessories coupled with bad roads. They fear, many driver’s children might not join the 2022/2023 academic train if the fuel shortage is not resolved immediately.

In past weeks, Cameroonians have been floodiing into fuel stations to get the precious liquid with gallons and other containers although the minister of water and energy on July 11, had signed a release announcing the distribution of 28000m cube of Super, 22000m cube of Gasoil and 12500m cube of Jet A1.

The additional supply of 88000m cube of Gasoil and 35000m cube of Super announced by minister Georges Elanga Obam is what many still await.
