Dozens of accident victims rushed to hospitals in Bafoussam and Bandjoun
Over 20 persons are currently under intensive medical care at the Bafoussam regional hospital and a health facility in Bandjoun, West region . They are victims of a road accident that occured early on Tuesday January 10 at Djebem, Koung-Khi division, which claimed the life of one person – a 57-year-old man.
“My son is a victim of that accident. I am here to check on him. He usually wakes up at 5:00am daily to get a vehicle to the farm in Bandjoun. I was alerted at 7:30 am that they had an accident. I quickly rushed there but they were already transported here at the Bafoussam Regional hospital,” a victim’s mother explained.
“My wife left the house very early saying she was going to the farm. Not long after she left I received a call their vehicle overturned due to reckless driving and poor negotiation of a bend. I rushed to the hospital to see her. She was in pains and told me her chest and neck hurt but I am sure she will be fine,” a man we met at the hospital explained.
These victims are employees of an agro-pastoral group situated in Banga-Fondji in the West region who were being transported on board a truck that morning. One of them with minor injuries recounted what happened:
” Our driver was driving very fast. When he reached the bend, he could not negotiate it properly. As a result, the truck overturned. It’s by God’s Grace most of us survived though in critical conditions”.
The driver accused of reckless driving is also in a critical state in the hospital.
