Douala: Mourner Dies, others injured in road accident
One woman died and several others were severely injured in a road accident on the flyover in Bonaberi, Douala IV subdivision-Wouri Division of the Littoral region on Saturday September 2.
The injured persons among them those with fractures were rushed to the Bonassama District Hospital after the prompt arrival of an ambulance and the army rescue unit.
The victims were mourners and passengers of a mini inter-urban transport bus belonging to Golden Express Agency that was accompanying a corpse to Tiko in the South West region.
A witness narrated to CNA how the accident happened.
“The Golden bus and mourners left the Bonassama District Hospital mortuary as part of a convoy transporting the corpse of a deceased loved one to Tiko. While at the flyover around Fokou, the driver of the bus tried overtaking a truck transporting brewery products. The truck driver gave way, but the bus driver saw a vehicle coming ahead on high speed and immediately got so close infront of the truck he was overtaking, crashing together. A woman died on the spot while four others including the driver suffered severe injuries. We don’t know if they will survive. I pray God helps them.” Fabien Abonge, a witness narrated.
In the meantime, the deceased’s corpse has been deposited at the Bonassama District Hospital mortuary.
Both the bus and truck suffered enormous damage except the oncoming vehicle having a light scratch.
