Douala: eroded road threatens security of cite des palmiers residents
Some inhabitants of Bloc Bordeau, in the Cite des Palmiers neighborhood, Douala V sub-division have raised concerns on the security of their children who use an eroded stretch of road in the neighborhood daily.
The road with a tar on it has been eroded by runoff, transforming it into what they qualify as a “death gully”.
“It’s shameful to live in a neighborhood with such a thing. I am not sure a vehicle can pass here again,” a local said.
The little portion permitting mobility of the inhabitants is at the verge of falling in completely. Jacques, another inhabitant said “the torrential rain still experienced in Douala is already ringing an alarm for us to adjust and be prudent.”
If the road cuts off, it will be impossible for residents to move in and out of the neighborhood given that it is a swampy zone.
“I am afraid of the dangers children going to school everyday are exposed to,” a woman who accompanied her son to school said.
Amos Tjop, head of Bloc Bordeau says they have filed complaints to the Divisional Officer of Douala V and the Douala City Mayor, who are yet to take action.
