Douala: Employee steals F CFA 70 million and burns shop
A man whose name CNA got as Kayo Sop Rodrigue is accused of stealing and arson.
Rodrigue was employed by a shop owner in the Ancien troisieme neighborhood as a sales boy. Although that part of Douala is known for high crime waves, Rodrigue is decribed by neighbors as a calm and hard working man. His employer had taken up a habit of keeping money in the shop ignorant of the plans his employee had. It is alleged that F CFA 70 million had been kept in the shop in Rodrigue’s care. Surveillance footages show Rodrigue transferring the money into a bag and then setting the shop on fire to cover his tracks.
Rodrigue has not been seen since the incident occurred. Authorities suspect he might be on his way out of Cameroon with the money. Investigations have been opened.
