Douala: City Council demolition leaves denizens in tears
Agents of the Douala City Council have demolished and destroyed several structures along the “Rond Poulin”-Logpom road stretch in the Douala V sub-division. This was last August 9th with the justification that the road needs to be enlarged.
The demolition was carried out after a notice served the victims just a week ago.
“I have been here for many years without any trouble. Before raising this building I shifted 5 meters behind from the main road. Yet today they include my building in the demolition. They destroyed 30com of my house.” A victim explained.
Other victims of this demolition said they were not given enough time to secure their properties.
Most of the demolished buildings were occupied by businesses and the owners tried to save what they could before the truck came raging.
A communique signed by the Secretary General at the Douala City Council on August 3 2022, had announced effective demolition for Tuesday August 8.
