Douala: Children die after eating food given by their mother
Inhabitants of Besseke-Bonaberi neighborhood in the Douala IV district were greeted by sadness this August 5th 2022.
Three children from the same mother with ages 8, 10 and a new born were found in a state of agony by neighbors. “We heard children crying last night. When we rushed into the house, we saw the girl and her brother agonizing and we took them out. The baby was in a very bad state and when we reached the Catholic hospital in Bonaberi, the baby had died” a neighbour attests.
The two other children died on oxygen at the Laquintinie hospital where they were rushed to. At the time of publication, no one knows exactly what killed the children but reports on the ground say they suddenly felt sick after eating bobolo ( a meal made from fermented cassava) and groundnut paste. Their mother is in a critical state at the Laquintinie hospital as well.
Unconfirmed reports claim the mother of the children poisoned the meal in an attempt to kill her husband whose name CNA got as Barrister Watson Akabum, whom she accused of adultery. The children, they go on to say, consumed the poisoned food without their mother’s knowledge and frustration or guilt pushed their mother to do same. She is presntly in a comma.
