Douala: Businesses paralyzed after 21-Year-Old is murdered
Economic activities have been at a standstill for several days now precisely at “Entrée Pilote” in Bonaberi, Douala IV sub-division of the Littoral region. This follows the killing of a 21-year-old man in the area on Sunday October 1.
Provision stores, snack bars, restaurants, shops etc have remained closed.
“We were in the neighborhood on Sunday when a fight erupted. No one has been able to clearly explain what provoked it. Our efforts to stop the fight were fruitless. In the course of the fight, one of the boys suddenly fell down and stopped breathing. A group of men returned here at Entrée Pilote ordering and threatening us not to open our shops or carry out any form of income generating activity here. Before departing, they first scattered a lot of goods” a local economic operator explains.
According to another source, the reason their kiosks and goods were destroyed was that they failed to stop the fight that resulted to the death of their brother and friend:
“They said we were watching how their brother was being beaten to death and did nothing to save him. We told them we tried separating but did not succeed.”
Gendarmes and police elements were deployed to the scene to restore serenity. Since the incident Sunday and with the threats advanced by the group of furious looking men who promised avenging the death of their brother, the security forces have been on alert.
