Authorities in Douala have announced a new wave of enforcement measures targeting motorcycle riders in a bid to restore order and improve road safety across the economic capital city.
In a statement released by the Douala City Council, the City Mayor, Dr. Roger Mbassa Ndine, warned that beginning April 2, 2026, joint control operations will be intensified in Akwa, Bali, and Bonapriso. The exercise will be conducted by Municipal Police officers alongside Urban Order Ambassadors.
The move comes amid growing concerns over the increasing number of unregistered riders and the rising rate of road incidents linked to non-compliance with transport regulations.
Under the new measures, commercial motorcycle taxi operators are required to present a valid enrollment certificate issued by the city council and must wear officially approved identification jackets at all times while operating.
Meanwhile, private motorcycle users are expected to present a valid driver’s license, registration papers, and proof of active insurance coverage.
City authorities have made it clear that non-compliance will attract immediate sanctions, with offending motorcycles to be impounded on the spot.
The Douala City Council says the initiative is aimed at streamlining the sector, improving the identification of riders, and enhancing safety for both passengers and road users.
As the enforcement date approaches, riders across the city are being urged to regularize their documents and comply with the new directives to avoid penalties.
