Douala: 2 Die, 4 injured in fire incident
At least two people have died and four others seriously injured in a fire incident in the New Bell neighbourhood Douala.
The fire broke out at about 3:00am on the night of August 28th-29th at the place called “Marché d’Onions.”
The wounded victims were transported by the army rescue elements to the Douala Laquintini hospital where they are currently undergoing medical treatment while the deceased persons were deposited at a mortuary.
After extending their condolences to the bereaved families, the fire rescue unit members advised the population to double vigilance this period of intense rainfall to avoid similar incidents.
On October 18 2019 fire engulfed a house in the New Bell neighbourhood burning two children trapped inside. One died and the other with severe burns was rushed to the hospital.
On Friday December 12 2020, four children died in a fire that was lit on their home in New Bell Bassa by a man in his 60s. A criminal act that stemmed from a land dispute with parents of the deceased children. The four children included a two -month old baby, two children of two and three years of age and a boy who was living in the targeted home and assisting the family.
