Douala: 15 year-old throws baby from building

Inhabitants of the Bonamoussadi neighborhood in Douala are still in shock following the happenings of this month of June.

Frederick, a 15 year-old is accused of throwing his new born nephew from their apartment building in Vallee Commissariat Bonamoussadi, while spending a weekend there. The baby’s father lives in Europe and its mother in Douala. The lady says she had just given her baby a bath and had left him on the couch next to Frederick in order to prepare a feeding bottle for him. When this was done, she could not find her baby where she had left him. Frederick had quickly told her the baby was in their bedroom. She was on her way to the said room when screams from neighbors drew her attention. Her baby had been thrown from the third floor and was agonizing on the pavement.

Rushed to a nearby hospital, the baby died and Frederick was nowhere to be found. Interrogated after his arrest by authorities, his initial statement was that the baby had fallen during play time with him. Upon the arrival of the deceased baby’s father, Frederick had claimed he threw the baby because he wouldn’t stop vomiting.  

The baby’s grandmother has also been arrested. Family sources say she never approved of her son’s relationship with his fiancée and was known for complaining that her son had stopped giving her money in the usual quantity ever since the baby was born. It is because of this and other reason not mentioned that she had encouraged the 15 year-old to throw his brother’s baby.

Investigations are still ongoing.
